Skryne 1-8 Allenwood 1-7: Skryne edged out the Kildare champions to claim a Leinster Leinster semi-final place at Newbridge yesterday.
Two late scores from midfielder Trevor Giles and corner forward Jamie Jordan earned the Meath champions a win in the closing minutes of the game.
With current Meath player Giles and former inter-county star John McDermott making up their midfield partnership, Skryne dominated most of the first half. Giles and McDermott combined in the 10th-minute to create a goal opportunity, which was converted by player-manager Mick O'Dowd.
This was followed by two points from James Gibbons as Skryne eased into a four-point lead. Allenwood recovered, however, with a John Carroll goal at the start of the second quarter.
Kildare player John Doyle was having a fine game at midfield and he tied the scores for the second time with a point in the 18th minute, before Niall O'Callaghan gave Allenwood a 1-4 to 1-3 interval lead.
Allenwood started the second period in strong fashion, scoring three times. However, Skryne gradually got back on top. Substitute Kevin Carty scored in the 47th minute and Jordan brought Skryne closer with a score kicked from 40 metres. A well-taken point from Giles - his only score of the game - brought the Meath team level again.
The winning score arrived when Jordan got his second point, after an Allenwood attack broke down at the other end of the field.
