LEINSTER CLUB SFC PRELIMINARY ROUND Skryne 1-11 Rathnew 1-8:SKRYNE SURVIVED a strong second-half comeback by Rathnew of Wicklow to advance to the Leinster quarter-finals at Navan's Páirc Tailteann yesterday.
The Meath champions took a grip on proceedings when Ian Davis netted from the penalty spot after 23 minutes. That left the scores 1-2 to 0-1. Skryne went on to lead by 1-4 to 0-2 at the break.
Rathnew enjoyed an impressive spell of dominance in the second half with Leighton Glynn and Tommy Gill also prominent. After Glynn drew the sides level, Mark Doyle gave them a 1-8 to 1-7 lead on 46 minutes.
But the Wicklow champions did not score again as Skryne added four points, one from Mark Battersby and three converted frees by Davis.
