Leinster Club FC semi-final: Putting in a sprint-finish that produced a flattering winning margin, Meath champions Skryne qualified for their first Leinster club football final appearance at the expense of Wexford's Starlights at Newbridge yesterday.
Trailing by 0-2 to 1-4 at the interval, Starlights reduced the deficit to a goal on two occasions - and even got it down to two points at the start of the third quarter - but the goal they needed was not in their locker.
The only goal of the contest arrived after seven minutes with Jamie Jordan drilling the ball to the top right corner of the net after Trevor Giles and player-manager Mick O'Dowd had been prominent in the build-up.
Skryne should have been out of sight by half-time, but careless shooting resulted in eight wides, while it took their opponents 23 minutes to get off the mark when John Hudson slotted over a free.
Starlights looked as if they might be building momentum in the second half when substitute Michael Donohoe fired over the best score of the match with his first kick, which left his side 0-6 to 1-5 in arrears after 47 minutes.
But that was their last score and Skryne finished by reeling off six points on the trot.
