HIGHLY successful jumps trainer Paddy Sleator died yesterday at his home in Grangecon, Co Wicklow at the age of 86. He dominated the jumping scene for decades along with the late Tom Dreaper, and enjoyed a host of big race successes in Britain.
He will be best remembered for the triumph of Bobby Beasley's mount Another Flash in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in 1960.
Sleator was renowned for placing his horses to maximum advantage both in Ireland and when linking up with Arthur Thomas on the British scene from the mid 1950s.
For many years Sleator supplied Thomas with a stream of talented jumpers, as well the pick of his work riders. Black Ice, Albinella and Scottish Memories who notched a career total of almost 30 victories were probably the outstanding performers of that era.
