All Ireland SFC qualifiers: Monaghan 2-19 Wicklow 3-6 Monaghan experienced little difficulty in booking their place in the next round of the All Ireland qualifiers at the expense of a lack-lustre Wicklow in a one-sided contest at Clones on Saturday.

Goals from Tom Freeman and Rory Woods in the 24th and 34th minutes respectively helped Monaghan stroll into a 2-9 to 0-0 interval lead. But the complexion of the game changed a little in the second-half with pride alone driving Wicklow on to a vastly- improved performance.

Tom Freeman was the main threat up front for Monaghan. He was in superb form and finished with a personal tally of a goal and eight points to his credit.

Two minutes after the restart Wicklow opened their account with a point from a free by Jonathan Daniels and in their best period of the game they hit two goals and two points without reply in the space of five minutes.

Garret Doyle and Leighton Glynn netted the goals either side of a brace from frees by Jonathan Daniels. That period also saw Wicklow's hopes dealt a severe blow when Wesley Callaghan got a straight red card for a foul on Benny McKenna.

The concession of the two goals in such a short space of time was a wake-up call for Monaghan and they soon regained control. The final 10 minutes resembled a training exercise. Wicklow got a third goal but by then Monaghan had the issue well wrapped up.
