A LITTLE more than a week after shattering Bohemians’ hopes of retaining the FAI Cup, Sligo Rovers get the chance to do Pat Fenlon’s men a favour this evening at the Showgrounds, where they take on Shamrock Rovers, the only remaining challengers to Bohemians for the title.
Paul Cook’s men tend to be pretty formidable when they’re at anything like full strength on home turf and aside from being without Eoin Doyle, who is suspended, the manager has everyone to choose from for the visit of the Dubliners.
Michael O’Neill has a little more to contend with as Pat Sullivan is suspended while Ian Bermingham (ankle), Sean O’Connor (calf), Paddy Kavanagh (hip) and Darragh Maguire (calf) are all doubts. The better news for the visitors is that Craig Sives returns from suspension.
“We’re going down there under no illusions,” says the Rovers boss, who will be anxious to see his side maintain their momentum ahead of next week’s vital top of the table derby game.
"We've won in Sligo already this season but we know this is going to be a tough game against a side that's got some good results recently. We know what we're in for, though, we'll be ready for it." – Emmet Malone
THE FAI and bookmakers were keeping a close eye on the Premier Division game between Dundalk and Galway United at Oriel Park last night after betting on the game was suspended by Paddy Power and Boylesports yesterday afternoon.
“Irregular” betting patterns led to the latter closing their book on the game hours before kick-off, while “suspicious” action forced Paddy Power to do the same.
Both companies notified the FAI of their decisions but Paddy Power was comfortable enough to reopen the betting prior to kick off.
The home side won 3-0, through goals from Alex Williams, Michael McGowan and Darran Mansaram – Carl O'Malley
