Keane on lookout

SUNDERLAND SEEM certain to be without Kenwyne Jones until the new year at the earliest and Roy Keane is urgently seeking a replacement for the centre-forward whose goals ensured Premier League survival last season.

Sunderland are also in the market for reinforcements in defence, with Jonny Evans having returned to Manchester United following a six-month loan stint on Wearside.

Kenna out of retirement

JEFF KENNA will make his first appearance as a player for Galway United in tonight's friendly game against Leeds United after deciding to come out of retirement as a result of the club's ongoing financial problems.

"My conditioning is good and I've played competitively at (English) Conference level up until a couple of months ago," says the former Ireland international. "With our current lack of strength in depth it now makes sense to make myself available to play."

Kenna's assistant, former Kidderminster Harriers striker Ian Foster, will also feature against the English League One outfit while a couple of Danish trialists are set to get run-outs in the Terryland Park game this evening.

Gary McAllister has brought a strong squad for the club's Irish tour, which includes games against Bray Wanderers and Shelbourne.
