A Brazilian congressional commission investigating the country's crisis-hit national sport has summoned five players who it says were caught in Europe with counterfeit passports.

Brazil international goalkeeper Dida, who is now with AC Milan, was among those called for an interview with the politicians.

The commission, in Brazil's lower house, also voted to investigate the bank accounts of 27 regional football federations as part of its probe into the problems facing the nation.

Congress has set up two commission of inquiry, one in the lower house and one in the Senate, amid a public outcry over the way Brazil's "national passion" is administered.

The last 12 months have seen domestic chaos, poor results at international level and a series of scandals, including one alleged to have involved former national team coach Wanderley Luxemburgo, who was sacked in September.

Luxemburgo is accused of having taken commissions on the sale of players when he was a club coach, an allegation he hotly denies.

The lower house commission said it wanted Edu, Jorginho, Warley, Dede and Dida to explain how they came to be holding Portuguese passports when they were in Europe.
