Changes to the Champions League have been ruled out "for the foreseeable future" but Europe's football chiefs yesterday announced they will look at reforming the UEFA Cup. The announcement was made by UEFA's chief executive Gerhard Aigner following a meeting of Europe's top 70 clubs, including Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Leeds, in the Swiss town of Nyon.
The majority of the delegates felt the UEFA Cup would benefit from a format that includes a group phase.
Hull City survived a winding-up order in the English High Court yesterday - but the future of the troubled club still remains in doubt after being placed in the hands of administrators.
Richard Edghill, Manchester City's longest-serving player, has been transfer-listed. The 26-yearold defender was stripped of City's captaincy earlier this season after conceding an own goal in the home game against Coventry. He was also substituted at half-time by Maine Road boss Joe Royle.
Edghill spent a month on loan at Birmingham before winning his City place back - but has since slipped out of the first-team picture again.
The FA have charged a Bolton Wanderers youth player with misconduct after testing positive for amphetamines. Matthew Stephan has 14 days to respond to the charge, which follows a random test carried out on January 10th as part of the FA's unannounced drug testing programme.
