Egypt striker Mido hit the post with an effort in the 58th minute, while Benoit Assou-Ekotto cleared the angle with a powerful free-kick.

Assou-Ekotto had earlier forced Antti Niemi into a near-post save but Spurs could not find a winner as Pascal Chimbonda had a header cleared off the line.

Portsmouth are top after winning 1-0 at Charlton Athletic on Saturday with Lomana LuaLua scoring the only goal after 74 minutes.

All too easy for Barcelona

SPANISH PRIMERA LIGA: European and Spanish champions Barcelona eased their way to a 3-0 win away at Racing Santander to keep pace with leaders Sevilla yesterday.

Goals from Samuel Eto'o, Ludovic Giuly and a Ronaldinho penalty secured the win, their third in three games in the league, to put them level on nine points with Sevilla and Valencia.

Sevilla are top on goal difference after Brazilian midfielder Renato scored a late winner to give them a 3-2 home win over city rivals Real Betis.

Third-placed Valencia became the first side to score against Getafe this season when Fernando Morientes headed home just before the break and winger Vicente made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the second half.

Real Madrid are in fourth after a 2-0 victory over Real Sociedad at the Bernabeu last night. Jose Antonio Reyes broke the deadlock in the 69th minute and David Beckham got the second in injury-time.

Roma the early leaders

ITALIAN SERIE A: AS Roma and Palermo maintained their winning starts to the season yesterday with victories that leave them joint leaders, Roma are ahead on goal difference.

Chilean midfielder David Pizarro scored his first goal for Roma in their 3-1 victory at Siena with Brazilian Rodrigo Taddei and Stefano Okaka Chuka also on target.

David Di Michele scored both Palermo's goals in their 2-1 win away to Lazio.

AC Milan maintained their 100 per cent record with 2-0 defeat of Parma away. They are, however, 17th in the table on minus two points following the eight-point deduction. Clarence Seedorf and Kaka, from a penalty, scored Milan's goals.

Fiorentina, who began the campaign on minus 19, remain bottom of the table after suffering another defeat with their 1-0 loss to Tuscan rivals Livorno.

On Saturday, champions Inter Milan were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Sampdoria.

Setback for Hargreaves

GERMAN BUNDESLIGA: England midfielder Owen Hargreaves is facing at least six weeks out of action after sustaining a fractured left fibula during Bayern Munich's 2-1 defeat at Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday.

FRENCH LIGUE 1: Paris St Germain defeated Monaco 2-1 away yesterday. The side from the French capital, who drew 0-0 with Derry in the Uefa Cup, cancelled Monaco's opener just before the break through David Rozehnal and David Hellebuyck gave them the points 10 minutes into the second half.

Second-placed Olympique Marseille beat Bordeaux 2-1 to hold a joint lead of 16 points after six games with champions Lyon, who won 3-1 at Lorient on Saturday.

Rangers slipping behind

SCOTTISH PREMIER LEAGUE: Rangers slipped further behind with a 2-1 defeat at Hibernian yesterday thanks to a double from Chris Killen who was sent off later in the game.

Hibernian took the lead after just eight minutes when New Zealander Killen hit a 14-metre header into the top corner of the net from Michael Stewart's free kick.

Rangers levelled through Slovakian striker Filip Sebo in the 65th minute. Killen scored the winner with nine minutes left when he powered another header high into the net from six metres.

Celtic top the standings with 16 points after their 1-0 home win over Dunfermline on Saturday thanks to Stephen McManus's first-half header.
