City reward Dunne
Richard Dunne (26) has signed a new three-year contract with Manchester City that will keep him at the club until 2009.
The Republic of Ireland centre back, who has been with City since October 2000 was recently voted City's player of the season for the second year running.
Paul Dickov (33) has signed a two-year contract with City after being released by Blackburn, who he joined from City in 2002.
City manager Stuart Pearce has told right back Danny Mills (29) he can leave Eastlands despite the former England international having three years left on his contract.
Wigan bid for Huth
It was reported yesterday that Wigan Athletic have had a £5.5 million bid for defender Robert Huth accepted by Chelsea.
The 21-year-old German centre back is believed to be unhappy at his lack of first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
Huth is currently with the German national team preparing for the World Cup.
Foster on standby
Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster will join the England World Cup squad following injury to Robert Green.
Foster - who helped Watford to promotion to the Premiership while on loan at Vicarage Road last season - has been named on the standby list after Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson's promotion to the main squad as a result of Norwich's Green sustaining a serious groin injury in the England B team's 2-1 defeat by Belarus.
US forced to reshuffle Defender Cory Gibbs has been withdrawn from the United States World Cup squad after picking up a knee injury in a friendly on Tuesday, with coach Bruce Arena naming Gregg Berhalter as his replacement.
Johnson landed
Everton last night won the race to sign Andrew Johnson from Crystal Palace for a club record £8.5 million, with the striker agreeing to move to Goodison Park in preference to either Wigan or Bolton.
The 25-year-old is due to complete the formalities of the move over the weekend, but he has agreed in principle to the personal terms on offer after discussing the move with Everton officials last night.
New deal for Kelly Tottenham defender Stephen Kelly (22) has signed a new one-year contract - but the club have confirmed that Egyptian striker Mido will now return to Roma after his 18-month loan spell.
Kelly would have been out of contract this summer but the Republic of Ireland international has agreed to stay at White Hart Lane for another 12 months.
Kelly has made 44 first-team appearances for Tottenham, even though he was largely a deputy for the Canadian Paul Stalteri last season.
Lyon eyeing Drogba
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has not given up hope of signing Chelsea striker Didier Drogba, after missing out on Paris St Germain frontman Pedro Pauleta.
"I spoke with (Chelsea chief executive) Peter Kenyon and he said to me that getting Drogba was impossible," said Aulas. "So we are waiting, but I will closely follow the performances of the Ivory Coast."
