Terim to stay with Turkey

FATIH TERIM is to stay on as Turkey coach and lead the country until after the 2010 World Cup. The Turkish Football Federation made the announcement yesterday amid speculation - partly fuelled by Terim himself - the coach would quit and seek a return to club management.

"Terim is in his post and will be the head of our team in the 2010 World Cup," said a statement on the TFF's website.

Terim (54) led Turkey to the semi-finals of Euro 2008 before they were knocked out by a last-minute Phillip Lahm goal in a 3-2 defeat by Germany on Wednesday night.

That was despite a lengthy list of injuries and suspensions that had Terim calling on all his years of experience to adapt his tactics. He has previously coached AC Milan, Fiorentina and Galatasaray.

City look to have got their man

MANCHESTER CITY are believed to have agreed a club record €24 million transfer of Brazilian striker Jo from CSKA Moscow. City executive chairman Garry Cook has been working hard to tie up a deal which represents the first of Mark Hughes' reign as manager.

Confirmation that the forward has joined fellow countryman Elano at Eastlands may not be made official until Monday.

Mixed messages from Adebayor  Fenlon confident Bolton swoop Thuram has heart problem

Meanwhile, Tottenham have agreed a deal with PSV Eindhoven for Brazil goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes - seemingly spelling the end of Paul Robinson's stay at White Hart Lane.

The deal is subject to the player acquiring a work permit.

Robinson could soon be on his way to Aston Villa to fill the hole left by Scott Carson, who has returned to Liverpool following the end of his loan deal.

Mixed messages from Adebayor

EMMANUEL ADEBAYOR'S future at Arsenal - and a possible move to AC Milan or Barcelona - looks set to be decided next week.

Adebayor and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger have been in Austria this week for the latter stages of Euro 2008 but the pair have not spoken yet, with discussions due next week.

"I have a three-year contract with Arsenal but I have a lot of clubs interested in me," said Adebayor on Sky Sports News.

"At the moment we are just going to sit down and talk next week and decide what to do."

When asked if he could still go to Milan, he said: "We will decide next week."

There were mixed messages from the 24-year-old Togo striker when he attended a function for manufacturers Adidas. He did insist at a press conference: "I'm staying at Arsenal". But then told broadcasters his future will be decided next week on his return to London.

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf believes Adebayor has already made up his mind. He told Setanta Sports News: "When I spoke with him. I said 'I'm waiting for you'. Let's see what will happen."

Bolton swoop

BOLTON HAVE completed the capture of Sweden international Johan Elmander from Toulouse.

Elmander has signed a three-year contract and seals a deal Gary Megson has been looking to finalise for six months.

While no fee has been announced, it is estimated to be around the €12.6 million mark, eclipsing the club record free Bolton paid Fenerbahce for Nicolas Anelka.

Fenlon confident

PAT FENLON is convinced Bohemians' dreams will not result in the same financial catastrophe that befell Shelbourne. Already league leaders, Bohemians began their Intertoto Cup campaign in superb fashion against Rhyl last week, overcoming a half-time deficit to clinch a 5-1 first-leg success.

Barring a major upset today Bohemians will book a second round trip to either Latvia or Iceland, when victory would leave them just one win away from a place in the Uefa Cup.

Bohemians could meet Iceland's Fylkir next week, given they won the away leg against FK Riga last week. "Whenever a team in Ireland does well now a degree of scepticism comes with it and people worry about whether it will last. That is understandable I suppose," said Fenlon. "But the major difference is Shelbourne was just one man - Ollie Byrne, who has since died of a brain tumour - whereas Bohemians have brought investors to the club."

Thuram has heart problem

LILIAN THURAM'S proposed move to Paris St Germain collapsed yesterday when it emerged the veteran French defender has a heart problem.

Thuram played for Barcelona last season but was not offered a new contract by the Nou Camp club. Thuram (36), said yesterday: "The doctors have detected a heart problem. It seems that it is the same problem that my brother had and which cost him his life on the basketball court."

Thuram will wait until the full results of his test, which should take about a month, before deciding whether to call time on his 17-year career.
