A round-up of today's other football stories in brief...
Striker Nugent gets the call
England coach Steve McClaren has called Aston Villa's Gareth Barry and David Nugent of Preston North End into his squad for the Euro 2008 double header with Israel and Andorra.
McClaren drafted Nugent into his 23-man party after Darren Bent withdrew with a knee injury. The Preston forward was always McClaren's first choice to step in should any of his four-pronged attack pull out and Nugent is now in line to become the first outfield player from outside the top flight to play for England since Michael Gray in 1999.
Barry fills the vacancy created by the absence of Gary Neville.
Rangers anxious wait
Senior Rangers officials will hold talks with supporters' representatives today, with the spectacular fall-out from their Uefa Cup defeat to Osasuna last week now likely to bring Uefa charges.
European football's governing body was already likely to investigate events surrounding the second leg in Pamplona, which the home side won 1-0, after Scottish fans clashed with Spanish riot police. But a video on the YouTube website, showing Rangers supporters chanting "F*** the Pope and the IRA", has since been brought to their attention.
Fans chanted the slogan after Osasuna took the bizarre decision to play the Tina Turner hit Simply the Best, a song which has been hijacked in the past by Rangers fans. Uefa confirmed that a formal investigation is "highly likely". The club are braced for a fine or a partial stadium closure for European matches.
Today's talks, between Rangers' chief executive, Martin Bain, their head of security, Laurence Macintyre, and members of the club's supporters' associations, will take place at Ibrox. Supporters' claims of heavy-handed treatment at the hands of police in Spain will also be discussed.
Emre cleared of racism charge
The allegations of racial abuse against Newcastle's Turkish midfielder Emre have been found not proven by an English Football Association disciplinary commission. The 26-year-old Turkey international, who was charged by the FA with using racially-aggravated abusive and/or insulting words during his side's Premiership game at Everton on December 30th, has had the case against him found not proven by an independent commission.
He was charged after angry exchanges with Tim Howard, Joleon Lescott and Joseph Yobo following a controversial penalty award.
