Woodgate moves
England and Middlesbrough defender Jonathan Woodgate has agreed to join Tottenham Hotspur, the London Premier League club said yesterday.
"We are delighted to announce we have reached agreement with Middlesbrough for the transfer of Jonathan Woodgate," the club said in a statement on their website. Financial terms of the deal for the former Real Madrid player were not disclosed.
Tevez's future at Boca
Manchester United striker Carlos Tevez wants to return to play domestic football in Argentina in "four or five more years".
Tevez has outlined his long-term plans to return to Argentina to win another title with Boca. He said: "I would like to play four or five more years in Europe. I would love this to happen at Manchester United and then go back to Argentina.
"I know I will finish my career at Boca. No doubt about it. I do not imagine myself retiring without winning one more title there."
Ballack happy
Michael Ballack maintains he is "completely happy" at Chelsea and is not about to consider a move away from Stamford Bridge. The German midfielder is battling to be fit for the visit of Reading tomorrow night after a calf strain kept him out of both the League Cup semi-final second leg win over Everton and the FA Cup victory at Wigan on Saturday.
Former Bayern Munich midfielder Ballack, who arrived at Stamford Bridge after the 2006 World Cup, has more than two years left on his current deal and rejected any suggestions he could be set to move on after now having finally settled into the English game.
"At the moment I am completely happy here," Ballack said.
Rovers remember
Two members of the Shamrock Rovers team that played against the Busby Babes a matter of months before the Munich air disaster will represent the club at the Old Trafford memorial service on the 50th anniversary of the tragedy tomorrow week, writes Emmet Malone.
All of the clubs that faced United in that season's European Cup have been invited to the service, and Rovers will send Liam Hennessy and Jim "Maxie" McCann, the scorer of the Irish team's first goal in a 3-2 away leg defeat.
Twenty-three people died as a result of the crash, including eight players, amongst them 22-year-old Dubliner Liam Whelan, who will be commemorated on a stamp to be issued by An Post next Monday.
