Shamrock Rovers and Chelsea fined over chants during Conference League match at Stamford Bridge

Both clubs fined €10,000 by Uefa

Shamrock Rovers and Chelsea have each been fined by Uefa over chants heard at their Conference League fixture at Stamford Bridge last month.

Rovers have been fined €10,000 for “transmitting a message that is not fit for a sports event” following chants about the death of Queen Elizabeth II at the match at on December 19th. Chelsea fans responded with an anti-IRA chant.

The London club was also issued with a €10,000 fine by Uefa’s Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB).

Chelsea beat Rovers 5-1 to complete a perfect record in the Conference League group stage, securing an automatic last-16 spot.

Rovers finished 10th to earn a place in the knockout play-off round, where they will face Norwegian side Molde over two legs next month.
