Ajax to play hardball with Liverpool

Soccer: Ajax have accused Liverpool of "lacking respect" in their pursuit of Luis Suarez

Soccer:Ajax have accused Liverpool of "lacking respect" in their pursuit of Luis Suarez. Liverpool director of football strategy Damien Comolli was in Amsterdam on Monday to try to broker a deal but the move remains at an impasse.

Liverpool's offer, which is understood to be around €15 million, is roughly half of what Ajax would ideally want. Any chance of Ryan Babel being included in the deal appears to have fallen through with confirmation that he is set to tie up a deal with Hoffenheim.

Ajax insist that they are standing firm over their valuation of the Uruguayan striker, who is currently serving a suspension.

"We'll have to wait for them to come back with something more respectful," an Ajax spokesman said.

"We want to keep him - at least until the end of the season and preferably for the rest of his contract. If you compare the €15 million Liverpool want to pay for Suarez with other transfers you can imagine that it's far too low for us.

"Luis is our top goalscorer for the last three years and also the man with by far the most assists as well. He was one of the big guys for Uruguay in helping them come third in the World Cup in the summer and he still has a contract with us for two-and-a-half years."
