Sam Allardyce insists he has "no regrets" about leaving Bolton after seven and a half years as manager.
He will say farewell to the players and staff today at their plush Euxton training base, near Chorley.
Allardyce has been replaced by his former assistant Sammy Lee with only two games of the season remaining and the club on the brink of a Uefa Cup place.
He said: "It's been a wonderful journey, a great adventure and a super time in my life. I don't leave with any regrets. We've all had a fantastic time, a great eight years but its time for a new era.
"Leaving the club at this time was a massive decision, but big decisions become part of your life as a football manager and you take them head on.
"I have to say a big 'thank you' to the supporters, who have always been magnificent. I don't think I ever heard an 'Allardyce out' chant, so that's saying something."
But the 52-year-old refused to shed any light on his decision to quit.
"Rather than looking for reasons, I think people should just reflect on what has happened over the past eight years and be happy," he told the Bolton News.
"I wish everybody all the best at the club from the owner, Eddie Davies, down. It's been volatile at times but we've had more great times than bad, more great times than most."
Allardyce is looking forward to a long rest, adding: "For the first time in 14 summers I can take a break without having to think about building for another season.
"I do not have to think about new contracts, transfers, new players, about what I should be doing and who I should be ringing. For the first time, Sam Allardyce only has to think about Sam Allardyce."
