Alves claims Liverpool interest

Sevilla's Brazilian right back Daniel Alves says Liverpool are interested in recruiting him for next season.

Sevilla's Brazilian right back Daniel Alves says Liverpool are interested in recruiting him for next season.

"They made an offer for me at one time and the interest is still there," Alves told the Sevilla website today.

"They are a great team and have some good players and a Spanish coach. They are also one of the best teams in Europe and won the Champions League last year, an achievement that is in the reach of only a few clubs."

The 22-year-old, who can also play on the right side of midfield, insists he is in no hurry to decide his future.

"I'm going to wait and see what happens," he said, "If it is a question of improving as a player then I will leave, but if I think I can still improve here at Sevilla then I will stay. There is still time to make the decision."

Alves, who was part of the Brazil side that won the World Youth Cup in 2003, joined Sevilla from Bahia in 2002.

He has been a regular in the first team in the last two seasons and had an outstanding game in Sevilla's 4-0 victory over Middlesbrough in the Uefa Cup final earlier this month.  Reuters
