David Beckham is set to be sidelined for around a month after suffering ligament damage in his right knee, Real Madrid confirmed tonight.
Beckham sustained the injury during the second half of yesterday's La Liga match with Getafe, when he attempted a cross and then ran into the advertising hoardings behind the goal.
The former England captain underwent tests at the team's Valdebebas training ground today, where it was confirmed he had damaged the internal lateral ligament in his right knee.
Beckham had already been omitted from a 23-man Madrid squad for Wednesday's Champions League second leg against Bayern Munich due to the injury.
However, he will now also miss this weekend's trip to arch rivals Barcelona, as well as possibly three more Primera Liga games.
The 31-year-old will also be unable to play in the charity game against Manchester United at Old Trafford on March 13th.
Beckham had been selected in the European All-Star XI who will play United in a jubilee match being staged to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the European Common Market, as well as United's 50 years of European competition.
The injury also rules out any chance of a possible recall to the England squad for this month's Euro 2008 qualifying double-header against Israel and Andorra.
