Champions League team news: Javier Mascherano and Yossi Benayoun are out of Liverpool's Champions League squad against Fiorentina tomorrow in the Group E clash in Italy. And Arsenal will be without Nicklas Bendtner for their game against Olympiakos after the striker was involved in a minor car accident.
Midfielder Mascherano, who only came on as a late substitute for Steven Gerrard in Saturday’s 6-1 hammering of Hull, is suffering from sickness, while Benayoun picked up a leg injury in the same match. Neither travelled today with the party.
Rafael Benitez may well have opted for a more cautious approach against Fiorentina had Mascherano been available, but it is now likely that that winger Albert Riera will stay in the side.
Youngster Martin Kelly is unavailable due to England Under-20 commitments.
OfBendtner, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said: “Nicklas did not practice because he had a car accident yesterday.
“Fortunately there was no real long-term damage, but he was bruised and we thought it better he did not train. He should be back for Sunday’s game [against Blackburn].”
England forward Theo Walcott is expected to return from a back problem in time for the weekend, but Denilson is set for up to two months on the sidelines with a fracture to his back.
Goalkeeper Manuel Almunia is still troubled by the chest infection, so Vito Mannone will continue in his place following man-of-the-match display against Fulham.
Samir Nasri (leg), Lukasz Fabianski (knee) and Johan Djourou (knee) remain out.
