Celtic captain Stephen McManus has vowed to bounce back from the comprehensive Champions League defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk.

The defender's poor touch allowed Brandao to net a fifth-minute opener and Celtic never recovered after Cristiano Lucarelli headed the second three minutes later.

McManus has stressed, however, that there will be no panic after the defeat against the expensively-assembled Ukrainians - who were able to bring £14million Mexican Nery Castillo off the bench.

"On a personal level I know I made mistakes and I also understand I'll make a lot more before my career is finished," he said today. "It was a disappointing result but one defeat doesn't cripple Celtic so far as the rest of the group is concerned.

"There's no-one in that dressing room feeling sorry for themselves. You dust yourself down and you move on.

"It's all right sitting in a stand and analysing a defeat like that, but out on the pitch we knew we were up against a side who had spent big money on strengthening their team during the summer, and it has to be kept in mind that Celtic are still a young side.

"But we have a strong bunch of lads and I can assure you we'll all be pulling in the same direction after a result like this one.

"It would be difficult for us if we had been on a three or four-game losing streak but there will be no panic button pressed by anybody.

"The next game against AC Milan will be difficult but we could all be sitting at home watching the Champions League on the telly. I know I would rather be playing in it."
