Blades to unveil new boss tomorrow

Sheffield United have called a press conference for tomorrow morning to unveil their new manager.

Former Middlesbrough and West Brom boss Bryan Robson has been hotly tipped to take over at Bramall Lame, with Brian Kidd moving up from coach to be assistant manager.

The Blades have moved quickly to replace Neil Warnock, who quit last week, after the team were relegated from the Premiership on the final day of the season after a 2-1 home defeat to Wigan.

Warnock earned promotion last season to book United's return to the top flight after an absence of 12 years.

However, despite looking safe from the drop in mid-February with a 10-point cushion over the bottom three a poor run at the end of the season saw them relegated back to the Championship after one season.

Warnock resigned last Wednesday after seven and a half years in charge and Robson immediately emerged as one of the front runners, having won promotion to the Premiership with Boro in 1995 and 1998.

He successfully kept West Brom in the Premiership in 2005 but they were relegated last year and Robson left the club after a disappointing start to the next campaign.

Yesterday he said: "I said from when I left West Brom in October that I'd like to get back into the game.

"I enjoy the management side and the coaching of the players.

"Sheffield United are a big club and that's the type of challenge that I would be looking for."
