Derry League of Ireland round-up: Bohemians remain a point clear at the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division but Derry City continue to snap at their heels after both sides maintained their push for the title. Bohs overcame Sligo 2-0 while Derry were 2-0 winners against Bray.

After misfiring in the opening period, goals from Gary Deegan and Jason Byrne got the hosts back to winning ways at Dalymount Park and preserved their slender advantage over Derry.

Derry extended their unbeaten run to six matches with their win at the Brandywell. It took just four minutes for the Candystripes to hit the front, Kevin Deery’s deflected shot evading Bray keeper Chris O’Connor.

And the points were made sure of in the 37th minute when Mark Farren fired home from 14 yards.

Derry’s win leaves them four clear of Cork City, who were beaten 2-1 at Turner’s Cross by Dundalk.

Elsewhere, Drogheda moved off the foot of the table for the first time this season thanks to this well merited 1-0 win over a disappointing St Patrick’s Athletic. Shane Barrett’s 31st minute smart finish proved the difference as United move above Bray on goal difference.
