Bohemians were emphatic winners against Mayfield at Dalymount Park after being sent in front by a Stephen Hurley own goal in the sixth minute and the left side midfielder handed his opponents a further advantage when he was sent off for striking out after a foul on Owen Heary.

The Bohemians skipper got a bit of his own back in the ensuing tangle but it was only Hurley who walked, though for the last 20 minutes or the Gypsies were reduced to 10 men when Gary Deegan limped when the home side had already used their three substitutes.

That, however, was after goal number six and there were two more to follow.

Jason Byrne and Glen Crowe bagged two, while Anto Murphy, Neale Fenn and Graham Carey were also on target.

Mayfield captain Anthony Wolfe got some consolation when scoring from the spot after he was clipped from behind by Paul Keegan.

At the Brandywell, Derry City were almost as ruthless in their 6-0 demolition of Ballymun United.

Sporting FIngal made no mistake away to Blarney United when winning 2-0, while Bray Wanderers were pushed close but beat Bluebell United 2-1.

Cork CIty and Sligo Rovers will have to do it again after a 2-2 draw at the Brandywell, but a Costigan goal spared St Patrick's Athletic's blushes at Limerick.

Dundalk and UCD won 3-1 at Mervue United and Arklow Town respectively.
