Soccer: Bohemians have honoured payments owed to former players, the PFAI has confirmed.
The payments come on the final day of the transfer window and clear the way for Bohs to confirm new signings.
However, with the majority of players out of contract, clubs can recruit beyond today’s 'close of business' deadline as long as the new arrival is a free agent.
Deals involving amateurs turning professional, international transfers or players coming from other clubs need to be completed today.
“The PFAI would like to confirm that monies owed to former players of Bohemian FC have been paid today,” a PFAI statement read this afternoon. “We would like to thank Bohemian FC and the FAI; Bohemians President Robert Dunne, the club’s General Manager John Doran and in particular club Treasurer Chris Brien, FAI Chief Executive John Delaney and League Director Fran Gavin.
“Without their assistance this situation would not have reached a satisfactory conclusion.”
Meanwhile, champions Shamrock Rovers have signed former Sporting Fingal player Gary O'Neill.
O’Neill was a free agent after Sporting folded last week. The 29-year-old scored 11 goals for his former club last season.
