Jay-Jay Okocha and Bruno N'Gotty have both been released by Bolton Wanderers after their contracts ended, the Premiership club confirmed today.
"Jay-Jay and Bruno will go down in Wanderers folklore," manager Sam Allardyce said after Bolton's final game of the season, a 1-0 home win over relegated Birmingham City yesterday.
"Not only for what they brought to the club in terms of experience and quality, but also for what they helped us to achieve during their time here," he told the club's website.
"We are hoping to reduce the overall age of our squad and it was a tough decision not to offer them new deals."
Allardyce has built Bolton's success on a core of seasoned veterans like the 32-year-old Okocha, who joined the club in 2002 from Paris St Germain on a free transfer after playing for Eintracht Frankfurt and Fenerbahce.
N'Gotty, 34, who initially joined on loan the previous year, helped PSG win the European Cup Winners Cup in 1996 before spells with AC Milan and Olympique Marseille.
The pair helped Bolton reach the League Cup final in 2004 and finish sixth in the Premiership in 2005, qualifying for the UEFA Cup for the first time and going out to Olympique Marseille in the third round in February.
Bolton finished eighth in the Premiership this time around.
