Middlesbrough have pulled off a dramatic late double deal with the signings of defenders Robert Huth and Jonathan Woodgate.
Chelsea centre half Huth signed a five-year deal for £6million while injury-plagued Woodgate agreed a one-year loan from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Middlesbrough also confirmed the signing of Charlton Athletic midfielder Jason Euell after
Germany defender Huth was set to join Boro in June but a move fell through.
Woodgate will aim to impress new Real manager Fabio Capello and new England coach Steve McClaren in his time on Teeside.
His opportunities at Real were always going to be limited by the arrival of Italian World Cup hero Fabio Cannavarro from Juventus.
Boro were beaten 4-0 at home by Portsmouth on Monday in a game that exposed some drastic failings in their defence.
Being a former Boro defender himself, new boss Gareth Southgate made the strengthening of his defence a priority before the transfer window closes tomorrow night.
