The "quiet confidence" that existed in the Bohemians dressing room during pre-season has been bolstered by six wins on the trot and, according to midfielder Kilian Brennan, the squad is now firmly focused on winning the eircom Premier League.
Bohs have won five league games in a row and recorded a 3-0 FAI Cup win over Drogheda United on Friday.
Not many saw them as contenders before the season kicked off but Brennan believes they are now showing championship form.
"There was always a strong belief there in the dressing room before the start of the season. Maybe the bookies and pundits didn't fancy us but we had a quiet confidence ourselves," said the midfielder, who was today named eircom/Soccer Writers Association of Ireland (SWAI) Player of the Month for May.
"We have a good mix of young players and experienced players who've won things before. We weren't going to go around blowing our own trumpets but now every win is giving us confidence.
"We've won five on the bounce in the league and another in the cup against Drogheda Town so six wins in a row going into the break is a good return. There's belief now that we can go on in the league.
Brennan's own form has played a huge part in that run and with five goals in May - against UCD, Sligo Rovers, Cobh Ramblers and title rivals St Patrick's Athletic - he has certainly played his part in propelling Bohs to the top of the table.
The Drogheda man couldn't have asked for a better start to his Bohs career since his move from Derry City in the summer.
"It's gone well for me, I have no complaints. I've been fit all season which is a big thing for me because over the past few years I've always had little knocks here and there", says Brennan.
"I've played eleven games, and scoring five times in May was a good month for me."
