Scott Brown has called on Uefa to take action against Benfica's Augustin Binya for the challenge that forced him out of last night's Champions League game.

The Celtic midfielder limped off the park shortly after Binya was shown a straight red card for a shocking tackle with five minutes to go.

Afterwards, Brown accused his opponent of trying to break his leg and, while applauding the response of Swedish referee Martin Hansson, urged football's governing body to act as well.

Brown told Sky Sports News: "I'm all right. It was a bad challenge but I've come through it."

Asked for his verdict on the video replay, Brown said: "(It's) shocking. I don't think the guy should ever have done that. He obviously tried to do me as hard as possible."

Brown was left in no doubt that Binya attempted to break the leg.

He said: "Yes I think he did, but I want to fight another day. Hopefully Uefa will deal with it properly. The referee dealt with it very well and sent him off right away."

Aiden McGeady grabbed the only goal of the game with a superb shot on the stroke of half-time to earn a much-needed win for Celtic, who headed into the match bottom of Group D.

"It's one of the nights I'll remember for the rest of my life," McGeady said afterwards.

"It's my first Champions League goal, and it makes it that bit sweeter that we got the victory as well. I've still got a long way to go before I become the player I think I can be and I know I can be. But every game I'm learning. It's not so much confidence - I just feel my game's moving up a level."
