Republic of Ireland under-17 manager Sean Caffrey has called for calm and composure within his young squad ahead of tomorrow night's European Championship game against Switzerland in Antalya, Turkey.

Caffrey was left frustrated at how his side went 1-0 up against France in their opening game last Sunday, only to lose to an injury time goal. Paul Murphy had put the Republic ahead but a defensive mistake let Alexandre Lacazette in to score the winner.

The manager conceded intense heat and fatigue was a factor in the performance but more composure is still needed on the ball.

"We were too frantic in our play on Sunday," he said. "There was a tendency to hammer the ball up front and we ended up giving away possession a lot of the time.

"With the weather being so hot and the opposition of such high quality, we can't afford to do that. Possession is precious at this level and we'll have to be more patient in our build-up."

Ireland will play Switzerland, who were beaten 2-0 by Spain in their opening game, at 3pm tomorrow (1pm Irish time). If they beat the Swiss, Caffrey believes they are back on track.

"In these tournaments you have to plan to play five matches but the next one is always the most important, and if we beat Switzerland we are back in it," he said.

The top two teams from both groups advance to the semi-final stages.

Sunderland's Conor Hourihane is available after missing the France game while serving a one-match ban for two yellow cards in the qualifiers. John Dunleavy (hip) and Richie Towell should also be available.

"We'll have three good players coming back," said Caffrey. "That's a major help to us because it will be great to have them on the pitch.

"It is going to be tough (against Switzerland) because it is difficult to play an Irish style of game in these extremely hot conditions.

"For most of the players, Sunday's match was their first experience of that situation and I think they'll be better prepared and less nervous in the second match."
