Former Arsenal defender Sol Campbell is undergoing a medical at Premier League rivals Portsmouth with a view to joining the south coast club.

"I can confirm he's having a medical," a club spokeswoman said, without giving further details.

The England central defender, who will be 32 next month, could be signed by Pompey manager Harry Redknapp as a free agent. Campbell ended his five-year spell with Arsenal last month, saying he wanted a "fresh challenge."

Campbell left after a particularly difficult season in which he stormed out of a game in February against West Ham United at halftime after being responsible for Arsenal conceding two goals. He was then sidelined for 10 weeks by injuries.
