FAI Cup round-up: Having missed a sitter at the death to win Friday's original game, David Cassidy atoned in fine style tonight by scoring two goals to send Shamrock Rovers into the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup on a 2-0 scoreline at Dalymount Park.
His goals, the first on the stroke of half-time and a superb second after a mazy run 16 minutes from time, rubber-stamped a memorable victory for Pat Scully's side over their fierce Dublin rivals.
Bohemians, to their credit, had dominated possession in a poor first half but somehow went in at the break behind. Nevertheless, they kept pushing forward after the resumption.
But to compound their luckless night player-manager Gareth Farrelly then missed a penalty not long after the restart.
Rovers defender Ger O'Brien tripped John Paul Kelly as the Bohemians midfielder ran in on goal but goalkeeper Barry Murphy - who excelled throughout - remained composed to bat away Farrelly's spot kick.
In the night's other game, Athlone Town and Finn Harps were tied 1-1 after 90 minutes and are currently playing extra-time.
