SPL Round-Up:Celtic returned to the top of the Clydesdale Bank Scottish Premier League with a 3-1 home win over St Mirren after Rangers were sent crashing to defeat earlier in the day at Aberdeen.

A Chris Innes own goal and a Georgios Samaras strike gave Celtic a two-goal cushion before Buddies' substitute Michael Higdon reduced the deficit just before the break.

Scott McDonald grabbed a third just after the hour mark and missed a late penalty as the Hoops went two points clear of Rangers, who have a game in hand, and Hibernian.

In the day's early game, the Gers woeful record at Pittodrie continued as they were beaten 1-0 by a battling 10-man Aberdeen.

The Dons, who have now only lost once against Rangers in their last nine visits to the Granite City, took the lead after 17 minutes when Lee Miller reacted smartly to prod home Michael Paton's cross for his third goal of the season.

However, Mark McGhee's side were reduced to 10 men on the hour mark when captain Mark Kerr was shown a second yellow for a challenge on Steven Naismith.

Rangers threw everything at the Dons until the final whistle but the home side managed to withstand the pressure to earn a hard-fought victory.

Hibs moved level on points with Rangers after a battling 2-0 win over Falkirk at Easter Road.

Derek Riordan scored both goals, the first a sweetly struck volley in the first half - with the aid of a deflection off Bairns centre-back Brian McLean - before settling the outcome two minutes from time.

Edinburgh rivals Hearts won for only the third time this season, edging out Kilmarnock 2-1 at Rugby Park.

Eggert Jonsson opened the scoring in the second half for Csaba Laszlo's side and Nade added the second 11 minutes later.

Kevin Kyle missed an 87th-minute penalty for Kilmarnock - who dominated the first half and had a goal ruled out for offside - before Craig Bryson scored their consolation a minute later.

Finally, St Johnstone and Hamilton had to settle for a share of the spoils as Filipe Morais' first-half equaliser earned a 1-1 draw for the home side.

Accies took the lead in the 24th minute when on-loan Dundee striker Mickael Antoine-Curier bundled in at the back post following Richard Hastings' deep corner.

However, Morais ensured the visitors' advantage lasted only five minutes when he headed in Kevin Moon's cross from the right. Saints pressed hard for the winner in the closing stages but their Lanarkshire opponents held out for a precious point in a frantic finale.
