Scott Brown will not be risked in Celtic’s crucial Champions League qualifier against Dinamo Moscow at the Stadium Arena Khimki tomorrow night.

The Hoops midfielder underwent ankle surgery at the end of the season and made his first appearance since against Sunderland last Saturday at Celtic Park, when he featured for the first hour in the 2-1 friendly defeat by the Black Cats.

Celtic’s Champions League aspirations are in the balance as they trail Dinamo 1-0 in the third qualifying round and speculation about Brown’s possible involvement has intensified since the weekend. However, Massimo Donati is expected be given the nod over Brown.

Despite the potential loss of up to €12million for failing to reach the group stages of the competition, Tony Mowbray refuses to feel under pressure so early in his career as Celtic boss.

He said: “It goes without saying that the Champions League, if you get to the group stages, brings finances with it which helps every team. But am I under more pressure? No, not really.

“I’m five weeks into the job and I’m here to build a team for today, yes, but also for tomorrow and I’m very confident that over the period we will build a team that will compete year in, year out in the Champions League, in the latter stages hopefully.

“It is the bigger picture that you have to look at, you can’t expect to change everything within four or five weeks.”
