Soccer: Champions League

Real Madrid were once more held by their noisy neighbours Atlético Madrid in last night's Champions League quarter final first leg. Real do go away with the slight advantage given the away draw, although they have still yet to beat Atlético in all competitions this season.

Meanwhile Juventus had Arturo Vidal to thank as they take a one goal advantage to Monaco for their second leg. Him and goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon who made a string of top-class saves to keep them ahead.

Tonight’s Champions League action sees Barcelona travel to PSG, a renewal of their group stage rivalry and no doubt a certain Luis Suarez will have a role to play.

The former Liverpool striker has been talking pre-match, explaining that he had to leave the famous Anfield club to win Europe's biggest club competition.

Rugby: Champions Cup

Leo Cullen has called on Leinster to replicate the spirit and of course the result of their 2009 semi final against Munster this weekend when they visit Toulon.

He says that the difference now is that the players know what can be achieved if they execute their game plan; “back then we were just being written off all the time and had nothing to cling onto because we didn’t have a history of producing the goods on the big day.”

GAA: Allianz Leagues

The big news this morning comes from Tipperary as their county Board have confirmed that former All Star and Young Hurler of the Year Noel McGrath will undergo surgery for testicular cancer this Friday. Best wishes to him in his recovery.

On the flipside, somewhat, Lar Corbett has returned to the Tipp fold.

Former Tipperary but now Dublin hurler Ryan O'Dwyer admits that he'll always be known as the Tipp hurler playing for Dublin, but it's not something which in any way affects his approach. Likewise for outside manager Ger Cunningham he says, all games are taken the same and emotions don't come into it.

Dublin take on Cork in Sunday’s league semi final.

Racing: Punchestown

Less than two years since Faugheen made his racecourse debut at the Co Kildare track, Willie Mullins's superstar Champion Hurdle winner is on course to maintain his unbeaten record at Punchestown.

Mullins has also left Hurricane Fly, Annie Power and Arctic Fire in the three-mile Ladbrokes World Series Hurdle.
