Chelsea reject further City bid for Terry

Chelsea have rejected a second offer from Manchester City for their captain John Terry

Chelsea have rejected a second offer from Manchester City for their captain John Terry. The size of the offer was not revealed in a statement from the Blues this morning, however, they club sought to end any further interest saying they would “not entertain any conversation on the subject”.

The news comes as the latest rebuff for City, who have already had a bid to sign Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o knocked back this summer.

City made an offer for the 28-year-old defender last season when they encountered similar short shrift from the Blues, who this morning reiterated the England captain’s desire to stay at Stamford Bridge.

“We can confirm we have completely rejected an offer from Manchester City for John Terry,” a statement on the club’s website read.

“It was made clear to City, for a second time following an approach last season, that we would not entertain any conversation on the subject.

“At the time John also reiterated his total commitment to Chelsea. We would like to make it clear, and will not do so again, that John is not for sale.”

There has been movement in the other direction, though, with young striker Daniel Sturridge heading for Stamford Bridge on a four-year deal after his contract expired at City.

The 19-year-old's fee has not been disclosed, but was settled by a tribunal.

Sturridge, nephew of former Derby forward Dean, made 26 appearance for City last season, scoring four times.

Terry, meanwhile, has callled for a United front among the Chelsea squad under new manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Italian coach will be presented to the media on Monday morning, with the squad set to reassemble at London Colney ahead of pre-season training.

Ancelotti, stepping into the Stamford Bridge hot-seat following Guus Hiddink's successful caretaker reign, will look to add to the playing staff and is understood to be keen on raiding his old club for Milan midfielder Andrea Pirlo and striker Pato.

The arrival of €22million-rated versatile Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow is expected to be confirmed shortly, with young goalkeeper Ross Turnbull having agreed a free transfer switch from Middlesbrough.

"Next season we need to make sure we start a lot better than we did last year and really push for the Premier League because I would love to win that trophy again, as well as being back in the mix for the Champions League," said Terry.

"It is important we realise Ancelotti is going to be here for a good few years, he is going to bring in his own players, staff and training methods.

"We need to adapt to that and move Chelsea in the right direction."

One player who may not be there, if Bayern Munich get their way, is full-back Jose Bosingwa.

Bayern have snubbed the Blues' asking price for the 26-year-old Portugal internationa, but chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has not ruled out a renewed bid.

"We are convinced about Bosingwa and that he would fit in really well at FC Bayern," he told Sport Bildmagazine. "I don't think the book has been closed on this issue yet."
