Manchester City have reached an agreement to sign Argentinean striker Carlos Tevez. The 25-year-old, who left city rivals United at the end of last season, has agreed personal terms and is expected to pen a five-year deal at Eastlands. Tevez will undergo a medical this week before meeting up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour to South Africa.
Manager Mark Hughes told www.mcfc.co.uk: "It is terrific news. Carlos is an international player of the highest class who possesses all the attributes that will help drive this club forward.
"He is not only outstanding technically but he is a reliable goal scorer and someone who will contribute fully to the team ethic. He gives us another exciting, attacking dimension.
"I cannot wait to welcome him to City. This is yet another deal that shows the commitment of the owner Sheikh Mansour to make this club the very best it can possibly be. I am sure our fans will give Carlos an exceptionally warm welcome."
City are also monitoring John Terry’s situation with interest as the Chelsea skipper continues to give the impression of wanting to talk with the Blues hierarchy.
Terry is said to have had a meeting with Roman Abramovich this weekend and is bound to have raised concerns about the failure to land any of the big-name targets that were put to him as possible signings last spring.
Fearing another season without either the Premier League or Champions League trophies despite the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti, Terry’s head is sure to have been turned to some extent by the offer of a massive salary, said to be way beyond his current €156,000-a-week deal.
It is claimed City are ready with a third bid for the 28-year-old, which may just be enough to trigger a formal transfer request.
Meanwhile, Sky Sport Newshas reported that City are in talk with Arsenal over a possible deal for Togo striker Emmanuel Adebayor.
Adebayor has been linked with a move away from the Emirates this summer, with a number of European clubs said to be interested in his services, but his future looked settled after his agent recently stated he would be staying at the Gunners.
However, it has been claimed talks between City and their Premier League rivals over a possible deal have begun.
The 25-year-old signed for the Gunners from Monaco in 2006 and has scored 62 goals in 142 appearances for the north London club.
