SOCCER: Manchester City have given Robinho their "full support" after the Brazil star was questioned following allegations of a serious sexual assault in a Leeds nightclub. West Yorkshire Police began an investigation after a student claimed she had been attacked at The Space nightclub in the city in the early hours of January 14th.
The striker was questioned on Tuesday and, in a statement on his website, his spokesman Chris Nathaniel said the Brazilian denies any "wrongdoing or criminality".
Robinho trained with City as normal on Wednesday, and a statement on the club's official website read: "The club have been liaising with, and assisting, both the player in question and the authorities in relation to the West Yorkshire Police investigation.
"Both parties have been given the full support of the football club. No charges of any nature have been brought against the player and no further statement will be made whilst the investigation is continuing."
Police said detectives arrested a man on Tuesday and he was later released on bail.
On Robinho's official website, Nathaniel said: "We can confirm that Robinho met the police today (Tuesday), as pre-arranged and as part of a criminal investigation.
"He strenuously denies any allegation of wrongdoing or criminality and is happy to cooperate with the police if required further."
Robinho, whose full name is Robson de Souza, joined City from Real Madrid in September for £32.5 million, making him the most expensive British transfer.
The 25-year-old arrived at the club following the £210million takeover by Sheikh Mansour in September.
Earlier this month Robinho left the team's training camp in Tenerife for Brazil, citing an "important family matter".
He returned to Manchester on Sunday for training the following day, according to his official website.
