Dundalk proved too strong for an under-strength at Terryland Park last night as they sealed an easy 3-0 victory over the Tribesmen in the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Sean Connor’s side dominated from the start and took the lead just short of the half-hour when Mickey Collins scored with a close-range header from Kevin McKinley’s corner.
Alex Williams got the goal of the night for the visitors on the hour when he fired past Barry Ryan, while they wrapped it up as they started when Collins scored his second headed goal from McKinley’s corner.
Meanwhile, bottom of the table Bray Wanderers drew level with Sligo Rovers on points with a 2-1 victory over Drogheda United at United Park last night.
Alan Mathews’s side had been unbeaten in six games but they went behind when Ian Ryan headed past his own goalkeeper from a Bray corner.
They doubled their lead 10 minutes later when Gary McCabe fired home a stunning left-foot shot from all of 30 yards out.
The home side got back in the game before the break, when Shane Barrett fired home from the spot after Paddy Kavanagh handled the ball from a Drogheda free-kick.
Try as the might after the break, Drogheda could not break down a stubborn Bray defence with goalkeeper Chris O’Connor outstanding.
