Cork City moved to the top of Setanta Cup Group One with a 2-0 win over nine-man Drogheda United at Turner's Cross tonight.
An excellent Dennis Behan strike and a late Jason Gavin own-goal was enough to give Damien Richardson's side the points but the main talking point was the dismissals of Stephen Bradley and Keith Fahey within the space of two minutes.
Bradley was shown a straight red having aimed a kick at Behan in the 75th minute while Fahey collected two yellow cards in the aftermath, the first for protesting before a late challenge on Danny Murphy resulted in his early shower.
Behan had opened the scoring just before the hour mark, a well executed volley from the edge of the box giving Dan Connor in the Drogheda goal little chance, and Gavin turned a Joe Gamble cross into his own net 10 minutes from time.
In tonight's other Group One game, Dungannon Swifts snatched a late point, a late Rodney McAree penalty enough for a 1-1 draw with Portadown. John Convery had headed Portadown ahead in the 23rd minute.
