Soccer - Airtricity League Round-up:Derry City were held to a 0-0 draw against Dundalk at the Brandywell tonight but the point kept them in touch with leaders Sligo Rovers.
The Candystripes will have went into this encounter believing they could record their fourth successive win but the visitors had other ideas.
As it was, there was nothing to choose between the sides - in score line at least. Dundalk's Stephen Maher picked up a yellow on the half hour mark while Derry's Ryan Curran received the same colour at the death.
The point moves Derry to within a point of their nearest rivals at the top but have played one more game. Stephen Kenny's side have the same points as Shamrock Rovers, who were in European action earlier in the week.
The night's only other Premier Division game saw Drogheda United defeat fellow strugglers and basement side Galway United 1-0.
Tiarnan Mulvenna scored the winner for The Drogs in the 20th minutes to compound Galway's misery at the foot of the table.
There were yellow cards on either side for Brian Gannon and Evan Preston, while Galway's Yob Son was given his marching orders
in the 70th minute.
In the First Division there were wins for Shelbourne, at home, and away wins for Monaghan United and Finn Harps. Mervue United and Waterford United played out a 1-1 draw at Fahy's Field.
