Soccer:Derry City moved to the top to of the Airtricity League Premier Division, on goal difference at least, thanks to a 2-0 win over St Patrick's Athletic but Shamrock Rovers are level on points and do have a game in hand over Stephen Kenny's challengers.
Derry didn’t hit the front until the 71st minute at the Brandywell when Eamon Zayed opened the scoring and the points were guaranteed eight minutes from time Dave Mulcahy scored an own goal.
Rovers kept pace with Derry thanks to a comprehensive 6-0 victory over UCD at Tallaght Stadium. Rovers dominated utterly and although UCD managed to frustrate Michael O’Neill’s men for more than an hour the breakthrough, when it came, was devastating.
Gary Twigg, Dan Murray, Billy Dennehy, Gary O’Neill and Ciaran Kilduff had all found the net before UCD defender Thomas Boyle put past his own keeper in added time.
Elsewhere, Drogheda were denied all three points in an exciting Louth derby as Dundalk shared the spoils thanks to a late Jason Byrne equaliser. Dundalk hit the front when Daniel Kearns Mark Griffin steered home but Drogheda drew level before the break through Tiarnan Mulvenna.
Dave Rogers fired Drogheda ahead with a spot kick early in the second half but his side were badly caught when a long ball down the middle allowed Byrne to show his wily side lifting the ball over keeper Steven Trimble for the equaliser.
