Setanta Cup Round-up:   Derry City played a composed pass and move game tonight and duly got their rewards with a well-earned 2-0 Setanta Cup win over St Patrick's Athletic at the Brandywell.

Ciaran Martyn headed home the Candystripes first goal after some intricate build-up play down the right side. The rejuvenated forward met a perfectly weighted cross to head beyond the Pat's keeper Brendan Clarke.

Derry's lively midfielder Pat McCourt also thought he got in on the act with his strike two minutes after the restart. However, Clarke parried the effort, only for the ball to come back off fullback Stephen Brennan for an own goal.

Although the game became more fragmented in the second half, with several yellow cards issued, Stephen Kenny's men were always good value for the win.

Elsewhere Linfield got the better of their Belfast rivals Glentoran with a 3-1 victory at The Oval and are the only unbeaten team in Group Two.

Despite Darren Boyce putting the Glens ahead within the opening 10 minutes, Paul McAreavey's brace for Linfield either side of the break turned the game on its head before Peter Dickson put the game beyond Glentoran's  reach with a third in the 68th minute.

Linfield's second win in as many games leaves them three points clear of Derry.
