Harps kept pushing but the Derry defence remained resolute. The final 10 minutes saw the game really open up but the Candystripes held on.

In the night's other game Longford beat Fanad 2-0 with some ease at Flancare Park. It can't have helped that the Ulster Senior league side are currently in the close season as they took on the Premier Division outfit.

Town's opener came when John Doherty gave away a corner before Dessie Baker's effort found an  unmarked Kevin Doherty who found the target after just three minutes.

Longford doubled their advantage in the 25th when Dave Mooney scored his 13th goal of the season.

Once ahead Longford were able to control their opponents despite Paddy McNulty going close for Fanad 10 minutes before the break.
