Striker Sammy Morrow bagged a brace for the Candystripes, with a goal in each half, the second of which came from the penalty spot after 51 minutes.
David Scullion scored the third in the 64th minute to ensure the pressure is on Bohemians and leaders Cork City, who meet tomorrow night at Turner’s Cross.
Bohs trail the Leesiders by just three points.
In the First Division, defender Conan Byrne’s first half goal got Sporting Fingal back on track with a 1-0 win against UCD at Belfield.
The win sends Fingal to within two points of the students and leaders Waterford United.
