Setanta Cup review:Derry City will take a commanding lead from their Setanta Cup semi-final first leg against Shamrock Rovers back to the Brandywell after a 3-0 win at Tallaght Stadium.
Rovers played much of the game with 10 men after goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse was sent off for taking down David McDaid in the 12th minute.
Replacement Oscar Jansson save McDaid’s spot kick but Derry captain Kevin Deery gave the Candystripes an early lead from the rebound.
The goalkeeper could do nothing about the second, six minutes after the restart, when Pat McEleney rifled a 30-yard effort into the net.
Derry virutally sealed their place in the final when McEleney’s cross was headed home by Ryan McBride five minutes from time.
Crusaders will travel to the Showgrounds with a 2-0 lead on Sligo Rovers after a brace from David Rainey.
