Transfer news:Everton have signed defender Sylvain Distin from Portsmouth on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee. The 31-year-old Frenchman completed the move today after passing a medical at the Goodison Park club's Finch Farm training ground.
Distin joins the club following the sale of Joleon Lescott to Manchester City and could make his debut against Wigan at Goodison on Sunday.
Everton manager David Moyes told the club website: "He'll give me a centre-half. I needed one before Joleon [Lescott] left and he'll give me a direct replacement for him. He's a left-footed centre-back, which I wanted.
"He's a bit older but more experienced and I look back at how well Davey Weir and Alan Stubbs did for us in their 30s, and I hope Sylvain can do the same.
"We need someone to come in and keep us steady because we want to be competing at the top end of the Premier League."
Stoke Cityhave completed the signing of Middlesbrough forward Tuncay Sanlifor €5.7million.
The Turkey captain joins former Boro team-mate Robert Huth at the Britannia Stadium after the Germany defender sealed his switch from Teesside a day earlier.
"Tuncay is an exciting player with his pace and skill who will certainly get the crowd going," said manager Tony Pulis. "He is also a player of international calibre and a leader of his national team."
Pulis also clinched the signing of Huth for the same fee, although that could eventually rise to a club-record €6.8million.
"Robert has a great presence about him," added the Stoke boss. "He is a big, strong defender and the fact he has played nearly 20 times for Germany is some recommendation in my book.
"He's one you know you can lean on."
Chief executive Tony Scholes said the fact the club had been able to pay out nearly €12million inside 24 hours and attract such talent spoke volumes about their ambitions this season.
"We are delighted to bring a player of Tuncay's quality to the club because he has attracted attention from a number of big clubs, as indeed had Huth," he told the stokecityfc.com.
"Therefore this is a powerful statement of our intentions as we look to move the club forward."
