Colin Doyle could have a fight on his hands to retain his role as Birmingham's first choice goalkeeper in the Premiership next season.
The Cork man made his Republic of Ireland debut against Ecuador in New York this morning but his club is said to be contemplating a move for Liverpool's Scot Carson.
The England 'keeper was on loan at Charlton last season but despite a number of impressive performances he could not prevent the club's relegation to the Championship
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce has hailed Doyle's performances since replacing Maik Taylor as number one in February but feels the 21-year-old may lack the experience for the top flight.
Hence the interest in Carson who, if he stays at Anfield, would act as deputy to Jose Reina. Jerzy Dudek will leave Liverpool this summer.
It is unclear if Birmingham will bid for Carson or seek him on loan. Either way Doyle, who recently signed a new four-year deal at St Andrews, could face stiff competition for his first-team place.
