Drogheda United have signed Finnish goalkeeper Mikko Vilmunen after the 28-year-old spent a week training with the team.

Drogheda United have signed Finnish goalkeeper Mikko Vilmunen after the 28-year-old spent a week training with the team.

Vilmunen, first choice keeper at FC Haka, who finished 3rd in third in the Finnish championship last season, was recommended by Drogs Finnish midfielder Sami Ristila.

"Mikko is similar in stature to Dan Connor and looks a decent goalkeeper", said manager Paul Doolin.

"With the amount of games that we expect to play next season it's critical that we have competition and cover for every position."

Midfielders Sami Ristila and Paul Keegan have also extended their contracts with the club till 2008.

Ristila, who has been with the club since 2004 is also to take charge of the Under-21 side this year. He will be assisted by Simon Webb.
