Burnley have confirmed Kevin Long has signed a new deal at the club despite rupturing his cruciate knee ligaments on his Premier League debut against Newcastle United on New Year's Day.
Long was forced off after just 21 minutes of his first top flight game in a claret and blue shirt and is set to be out for the rest of the season.
However Burnley have shown faith in the 24-year-old defender, who they signed from Cork City in 2010, by offering him a new contract which will keep him at Turf Moor until June 2017.
Following his injury Burnley boss Sean Dyche said: "It is bad news for Kevin. We thought it wasn't a great situation when we first saw it live.
“Unfortunately he has done his cruciate and is going to be out for a number of months, as we know through Sam Vokes’ recent injury.
“He knows he will get taken care of though here and he knows the journey he will be on, so we wish him well on his recovery and we will make sure he is supported throughout.”
